Clara Herstatt (1883-1981)

Clara Herstatt had dedicated her life to art, as her parents Victor and Ludowika Schnitzler had taught her. As a concert pianist, encouraged by Hermann Abendroth she had given more than 120 public concerts for many years.

She received numerous artists in her house and supported them. In her guest book one finds dedications by Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler and Max Bruch, later by Braunfels, Abendroth, Eugen d’Albert, Carl Schuricht, Edwin Fischer, Backhaus and many more.  In addition to art, she was also a successful horsewoman and holder of the Golden Riding Badge and all, of course, in side saddle.
